Reduce Caffeine to Reduce Anxiety
We all love a coffee, or tea (if you’re like me) in the morning, and there is absolutely nothing wrong in that, but we advice to reduce caffeine to reduce anxiety! A little bit of caffeine never hurt anyone but caffeine is a stimulant and can actually increase anxiety if taken excessively. Some people can tolerate more caffeine than others, but generally if you live with anxiety, reducing caffeine is a good idea! Excessive caffeine intake can also lead to lack of sleep, which is a major cause of anxiety. We discussed the importance of sleep hygiene in one of our earlier posts in this series!
So what has caffeine in it?
- Soft drinks
- Some ice-creams
What alternatives do I have?
- Try decaf
- Drink water
- Herbal teas
- Opt for healthy foods for snacks (apples, pears, grapes etc…)
So it’s not just tea and coffee, there is caffeine lurking in some foods too! How many of us chill out on the sofa with a tub of ice cream? I know I have in the past, but think to check in future if the ice cream you’re enjoying is loaded with caffeine. So remember to reduce caffeine to reduce anxiety!
