Learn How to Make Extra Income Even if You Cant Work
If you struggle to work due to anxiety, then to make extra income is a pretty important subject, and I wanted to address it on my blog! It’s possibly one of the most anxiety provoking aspects of life. That is, having enough money to do pay for the things we need. Our bills, the mortgage/rent, food, school lunches and the list is simply endless! I do have some ideas for you today though and I hope you find them useful! If you have any other ideas then feel free to comment in the comments section below and I’d be really happy to hear your suggestions.
Sell Books on Amazon to Make Extra Income
One of the easiest ways I find to make extra income is to book hunt in charity shops. Charity shops are literally inundated with books and there are few people who search there for the kinds of books you’re likely to want to sell. That said, it’s important you know what you are looking for.
You are probably already familiar with Amazon and have noticed that some books sell for very little. We do not want to be buying these books, what’s the point? Then with the fees, you wind up losing money. But…if you know someone who has experience of selling books on there (like me – wink wink) then the process becomes a lot easier!
Essentially the kinds of books that sell for a decent price are the ones that cost quite a bit of money to buy new! These are typically University textbooks or niche books. You can imagine just how expensive it can be to need to purchase 5 or 6 textbooks at £50 a piece, and students are notoriously known for trying to save as much money as they can. One great way they can save money is to buy second hand books and that is exactly what many students do. Typically when students graduate they are left with a bookshelf full of textbooks that are surplus to requirement. So what do they do? They usually give them to charity.
Now we have discussed how students can typically spend up to £50 per textbook if bought new, but that doesn’t mean that YOU are going to be paying anywhere near that for them. You might buy one for £1.00 or £2.00, even 50p in some shops.
IMPORTANT: When buying University textbooks, always look at the date of publication as if it’s quite an old textbook (more than 10 years) chances are it will be harder to sell! It doesn’t mean though that it won’t ever sell. The best textbooks are less than 5 years old.
REMEMBER: the more current the book the more you will earn.
How to Set Up an Account
The secret to Amazon starts with registering for an Amazon seller’s account and to download the Amazon Sellers app on your mobile phone. Within the app there is a handy scanner that allows you to either scan the barcode, or even the front cover of the book. It will find your book in seconds and tell you how much it is being sold for currently.
Upon scanning, Amazon will inform you of the ranking of that book in relation to sales! My advice is to buy books under the 200,000 sales ranking. Some books may flag up in the 1,000,000 ranking, but steer clear of these as you may end up stuck with the book (even if it is listed for £100). Now of course you will pay fees to Amazon once you sell your book, but it is free to list as many as you want. Amazon charge you 10% of your sale in fees and you automatically get £2.80 towards postage and packaging!
Be mindful though that heavy books will cost more to send in the post!
There have been times when I’ve bought a book for £1.00 and sold them for £50.00. Not a bad profit margin if you ask me, and it certainly helps with the bills!

Snap Shot Your Way to Make Extra Income
Are you a creative person? Well if you’re a dab hand at the camera and know how to work programmes such as Photoshop, then why don’t you give stock photography a shot (pun intended)? There are programmes online, Shutterstock being the champion of them all and the one I personally recommend (click banner link below) that will actually pay YOU for the photos, videos or vectors you submit to them! Now of course your pictures do need to meet some specifications and some camera phone pictures are not high quality enough, so stick to your compact camera or DSLR if you have one!
You might live in an area of natural beauty and the opportunities for taking breathtaking photographs are plenty. You might live in a more industrial area or maybe something more rural or suburban…the opportunities are endless for stock photography as there are always designers who need photographs of pretty much everything for pretty much anything! From designing websites, to photos for articles to even blog posts like this (the picture I used for this blog post is a stock image)!
“Yeh but I don’t know what to take pictures of…” you may say…but trust me you could take a photograph of a traffic cone in the road, and someone would just be looking for that kind of image! The opportunities are endless! Just be mindful of photographing brands as this is not allowed! E.G. photographing an empty mars bar packet, or a shoe with a visible logo or brand name showing.
There is a never ending need for stock images but there is not a never ending supply of stock photographers! So get snapping to make extra income!
